FROMLEPERS ON ACID FAST BACILLI ISOLATED FROM LEPERS AND OTHER SOURCES

Abstract
Ten strains out of 21 acid-fast bacilli used in the proceeding 7eport were inoculated to rabbits, guinea pigs and mice, and the pathogenicity and histological changes were studied.
1. The histo-pathological findings in rabbits and guinea pigs were almost the same in their characters, but the changes in guinea pigs were more severe than those in rabbits. The changes in mice were different from both, and were the most severe among fh--m.
2. The most evident changes were observed in liver and then spleen, lungs, and kidney were followed. No finding was observed in testis and ovaries. The histological changes in lungs were mostly atelectasis and congestion.
3. 5 N (isolated from human leprosy lesions) and No. 16 (isolated from soil) produced more stronger wide-spread histopathological changes in animals than tubercle bacilli. Some strains from mouth cavities and soils showed only weak pathogenic changes in animals.
4. Inoculated acid-fast bacilli were discovered in inoculated focus, regional lymph nodes and in tissue section by staining. However, the distribution of bacilli in organs was different, according to the strains used.
